Fifth Annual Monument Valley Ride Photo Gallery
This ride is always a “memory maker."
Verde
Valley Horsemen's Council members enjoyed their fifth annual Monument Valley
ride, meeting on Sept. 30 at Goulding’s to caravan to the camp site. We rode
down on the floor this year. There was adequate parking for rigs and our
favorite horse or mule. Stock water was available. Meals were catered starting
Thursday evening through Sunday night. We had people in camp, non-riders,
keeping an eye on things at camp while we were out riding. It was a wonderful
event!
Not overly difficult, the
Monument Valley ride featured lots of
sand. The ground was very hard, making it challenging to use electric fences--
and trees were in short supply. Wondering sheep often wander into camp and eat
any feed left out. Riders could not leave their dogs loose as local Indians'
dogs like to wander into camp, sometimes with the sheep and other times on their
own.
This year’s ride was
enjoyed by 60 riders plus seven non-riders. Bill Dean and Homer Harmon did a
wonderful job of organizing this catered event and many riders are already
planning on next year’s ride. Thanks goes out to Diane Lovett and Ginny Rench
for doing the clerical part of this huge undertaking and sharing their expertise
in putting on such events.
